Principal's Message

Welcome to Glen Avon School! I have always enjoyed the promise that comes with a new school year and I am looking forward to getting to know the staff, students, and parents of our school community.

Our school board and central office team ask us to focus on two main goals; improving student achievement and strengthening relationships.  Regular reflection on our teaching and assessment practices will help us to keep helping students grow and achieve academically, while also pushing us forward to continually improve our practice and expertise.   The Student Support Team will remain in place to provide support to struggling students and the regularly scheduled STS class blocks will allow students to access their own teachers and work on incomplete assignments, get help with specific concepts or practice other skill sets. Students who do not require extra assistance or time during STS will have the opportunity to develop leadership skills by assisting in various ways within the school community.

The late Dr. Maya Angelou, a celebrated writer, educator, filmmaker and civil rights activist once said, “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”  Quality relationships are at the core of a strong school, community and world.  We will continue to focus on teaching our students virtues and citizenship as we also take steps toward developing a culture of student leadership within our school. The prospect of helping students see themselves as leaders and how that will impact who they are as students and citizens is an exciting one.
